Ertem Eğilmez was born in Trabzon in 1929. He completed his education at the Faculty of Economics of Istanbul University, but his passion for cinema soon took precedence, leading him to enter the film industry in the 1950s through publishing. Alongside Erduran and Haldun Sel, he co-founded Çağlayan Yayınevi, establishing himself in the literary world. In the early 1960s, he turned his focus to cinema and founded Arzu Film, which became one of Yeşilçam’s most important production companies.
His first production was “Fatoş’un Fendi Tayfur’u Yendi” (1964). He began his directing career with “Senede Bir Day” (1965). From the late 1960s onward, he increasingly focused on comedy, producing some of the most widely watched films in Turkish cinema history.
