Afyon Marble

Afyon Marble is a natural stone recognized worldwide for its geological structure and quality level, and exported to more than 120 countries. It has been officially registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office as a "Geographical Indication" and is extracted and processed only within the boundaries of Afyonkarahisar Province.

Product Definition and Distinctive Features

Afyon Marble encompasses stones of various geological structures and colors extracted from quarries in Afyonkarahisar Province and its districts of İscehisar, Bolvadin, Emirdağ, Şuhut and Sandıklı. The types of Afyon Marble consist of 19 distinct varieties, primarily including white, gray, honey, violet, sugar, tiger stripe, travertine and onyx.

Common Types:

• Afyon White (Kaymak) Marble: Composed of fine to medium-grained calcite crystals; may feature light gray and yellowish spots on a white background.
• Afyon Tiger Stripe Marble: A brecciated marble with a dark gray base and light gray bands.
• Afyon Sugar Marble: A massive white marble containing fine golden-yellow veins.
• Afyon Honey Marble: Characterized by a crystalline structure with yellowish-red limonite veins.
• Afyon Violet Marble: A decorative marble variety containing light and dark purple streaks.
• Afyon-Emirdağ Travertine and Onyx: Offers travertine and onyx varieties in tones such as beige, brown and gray.

Distinctive Features: Afyon Marble types exhibit high polishability, ease of shaping and durability, and are widely used in interior and exterior claddings, flooring, monuments, sculptures, mosaics and decorative objects.

Production Method

Afyon Marble is extracted directly from marble quarries using modern technical equipment. Methods employed include diamond wire cutting, chain saw machines, quarry cutting, sawing and drilling systems.

1. Cutting and Extraction: Blocks, rubble or billets are extracted directly from the quarry.
2. Transportation: Raw materials extracted from quarries are transported to processing facilities by truck or lorry.
3. Processing: Converted into semi-finished or finished products such as slabs, plates, tiles, steps and coping.
4. Artistic Transformation: Marble in billet and rubble form is crafted into sculptures and decorative items in workshops.

Geographical Boundary and Control

Afyon Marble may be extracted only within the boundaries of Afyonkarahisar Province and from officially registered quarries. Each marble type is uniquely associated with its geological formation, reinforcing the product’s geographical origin.
