Origin

The word ajour is of French origin. It entered Turkish from the French word ajour, which is derived from jour meaning "daylight" and refers to ornamental openwork in lace and embroidery.

• Textiles / Handicrafts: Used to describe decorative transparent openings and perforated embroidery patterns created by sliding, cutting, or manipulating threads on fabric surfaces.
