Ali Jadallah is a Palestinian photojournalist serving with Anadolu Agency in Gaza since 2015. He has primarily documented daily life, conflict conditions, and the impact of war on the civilian population in the Gaza Strip through his photography.
Jadallah has been documenting the social and humanitarian conditions in Gaza through photojournalism for over 15 years. His work is grounded in direct on-the-ground reporting, particularly during periods of conflict. The destruction caused by attacks in Gaza, civilian casualties, healthcare conditions, and the humanitarian crisis form the central themes of his photographic output.
While covering the “Great Return March” protests in Gaza between 2018 and 2019, Anadolu Agency photojournalist Ali Jadallah was injured multiple times during Israeli military interventions. In March 2018, he was wounded in the right hand by shrapnel; in June 2018, he was shot in the left hand by a live bullet; in May 2019, he was hit in the head by a tear gas canister; and on 30 August 2019, he suffered a head injury from a rubber-coated metal bullet. Following the last incident, he was hospitalized and received stitches on his head, enduring prolonged health complications.
In the early days of the intense attacks that began on 7 October 2023, his family home was targeted; in this attack, he lost his father, two siblings, and three cousins. His mother, who was undergoing dialysis, was rescued alive from the rubble with serious injuries. Due to the impossibility of access, Jadallah was only able to recover the bodies of his family members three days later. His wife, children, and mother were evacuated from Gaza and brought to Türkiye; Jadallah remained in Gaza to continue his photojournalism work.
Ali Jadallah’s photographs form the visual foundation of the Anadolu Agency publications Kanıt (The Evidence) and Tanık (The Witness). These works have been used as documentary evidence on international platforms and in legal proceedings. One of Jadallah’s photographs was presented to the public by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
Jadallah participated in the exhibition Sessiz Lens (Silent Lens) alongside Anadolu Agency photojournalist Mustafa Hassona. The exhibition, held at the Turkish Photography Foundation Art Gallery, displayed photographs taken in Gaza and awarded international prizes. The works centered on themes of resistance, suffering, and hope.
Ali Jadallah has received numerous awards for his photojournalism:
Ali Jadallah’s photographs have been featured in year-end selections by international media outlets including Time, US News, The Atlantic, and CNN, and have appeared as cover images in various print publications. Magnum Photos has also dedicated a special section to him titled “Voices From Gaza: Ali Jadallah.”
