Asarkaya Urban Forest

Asarkaya Urban Forest is an urban forest located within the boundaries of the Ünye district of Türkiye's Ordu Province. It lies along the Ünye-Fatsa highway, approximately 4–9 kilometers from the city center. Situated at an elevation of 330–360 meters above sea level, this forested area has been reforested and developed as a recreational zone by the Ünye Forest Management Directorate and the Ünye Forest Management Office. The urban forest covers a total area of 38 hectares.

Ecosystem and Biodiversity

The urban forest hosts various tree species, primarily chestnut, hornbeam, beech, and Turkish pine. The area is notable for its diverse plant life and wildlife. The forest provides suitable conditions for birdwatching and nature walking, and serves as habitat for numerous wild animal species.

Recreational Use and Facilities

Asarkaya Urban Forest is open to the public throughout the year and has been developed as a recreational area. Facilities within the site include a restaurant, café, restrooms, and a small mosque. Visitors are prohibited from bringing grills or gas cylinders from outside; however, pre-lit grills and traditional copper water heaters (semaver) are provided on-site. Recreational activities include picnicking, sports, nature walking, photography, and birdwatching.

Geographical Location and Access

Asarkaya Urban Forest is situated in the Cevizdere Neighborhood of Ünye District, Ordu Province. Access to the forest is possible by private vehicle or via public transportation within the city. Visitors can reach the coastal area by red-line dolmuş buses and then access the forest via a 3-kilometer hiking trail.
