As the third-generation athlete of the Sofuoğlu family, he entered motorsports beginning with motocross before transitioning to international circuit racing, competing successively in the World Supersport 300 Championship, the World Supersport Championship, and the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK). As of the 2025 season, he competes in the World Superbike Championship with the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team and holds the distinction of being the second Turkish rider to race in the WorldSBK category after [Toprak Razgatlıoğlu](/en/detay/toprak-razgatlioglu-b5b4c/llms.txt). ### Family Ties and the Origin of His Name Bahattin Sofuoğlu is the third-generation representative of the Sofuoğlu family in motorsports. He is the cousin of Sinan Sofuoğlu and [Kenan Sofuoğlu](/en/detay/kenan-sofuoglu-4572e/llms.txt). His father is Selman Sofuoğlu. Bahattin Sofuoğlu was named after his uncle Bahattin, who died in a traffic accident in 2002. His first motorcycle was gifted to him by Kenan Sofuoğlu, who had his own name painted on the bike. Another member of the family, Sinan Sofuoğlu, competed as a guest rider in the 250cc category at the 2005 MotoGP World Championship held at Istanbul Park and became the first Turkish motorcycle racer to participate in MotoGP. Sinan Sofuoğlu suffered severe injuries in a training crash on 9 May 2008 at the race track in Körfez, Kocaeli, and died in the hospital. Kenan Sofuoğlu won the World Supersport Championship five times—in 2007, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2016. Over his 11-year competitive career, he participated in 126 races, achieving 43 wins, 27 second places, and 15 third places, for a total of 85 podium finishes. Kenan Sofuoğlu concluded his active racing career at the World Supersport Championship race held at the Imola Circuit in Italy on 12 May 2018. ### Childhood and Entry into Motorsports Bahattin Sofuoğlu began riding motorcycles at the age of four. His interest in motorsports started when his father gave him a small motocross bike as a birthday gift. Bahattin Sofuoğlu learned to ride from his uncles and competed in motocross during the early stages of his career rather than on asphalt circuits. At the age of nine, he began training alongside his cousin at a track built by Kenan Sofuoğlu. During this period, he competed in the 50cc category, participating in 14 races and finishing first in 11 of them. He placed second in the previous year’s Turkish Motocross Championship. He also competed as a guest rider in the Turkish Supermoto races held in Akyazı, Sakarya. In the 2010 Turkish Motocross Championship, he won his first race and reached the podium, ultimately securing the championship title. After motocross, he progressed to the supermoto category and later to racing. ### International Career #### World Supersport 300 Championship Era (2018–2021) Bahattin Sofuoğlu began his international racing career in 2018 with the World Supersport 300 Championship. His first international race was at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal, the seventh round of the season, where he competed on a Yamaha YZF-R3 for the Italian team Team Trasimeno. In the 2020 season, he transferred to the Biblion Motoxracing team. His victory in the second race of the opening weekend in Spain marked one of his first major wins. In September 2020, at the MotorLand Aragon circuit in Spain during the fourth round of the season, he started from pole position. He finished second in the race, but was promoted to first after Spanish rider Victor Rodriguez Nunez and his team Kawasaki 2R Racing were disqualified for rule violations. He also finished third in the second race of the same weekend, securing another podium. He ended the 2020 season in third place overall with two wins and four podiums. In the 2021 season, Bahattin Sofuoğlu continued competing in the Supersport 300 category, winning races in Catalonia and Spain and achieving a total of three podium finishes during the season. Over his career, he has reached the podium 12 times in the World Supersport 300 Championship and secured third place in the world standings. #### World Supersport Championship Era (2022–2024) Following his performance in the Supersport 300 category, Bahattin Sofuoğlu moved up to the Supersport category in 2022. During this period, he competed in races under the WorldSSP Challenge (World Supersport Europe Series) as part of the MV Agusta Reparto Corse team. He finished in the top 10 in six races and won the European Championship title. In the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he competed full-time in the World Supersport Championship. In 2023, he achieved one win and three third-place finishes, ending the season in sixth place overall. During this period, he reached the podium four times in the Supersport category and earned the European championship title. In the final four races of the 2024 season, he switched to the Yamaha Thailand team and scored points in three of those races by finishing in the top 10. #### World Superbike Championship Era (2025–) After three seasons in the Supersport category, Bahattin Sofuoğlu signed with the Yamaha Motoxracing team for the 2025 season and began competing in the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK). With this transition, he became the second Turkish rider to race in WorldSBK after WorldSSP300 and WorldSSP. In his rookie season, he scored 26 points and earned points in his very first race. At the end-of-season test in Jerez, he confirmed that he would continue as the sole Turkish rider in the Superbike category following Toprak Razgatlıoğlu’s move to MotoGP. He stated that during the test he tried four different components and was satisfied with three of them, noting progress in the electronic systems. In 2026, he is entering his second year in the World Superbike Championship. He continues his training under the mentorship of Kenan Sofuoğlu at the Kenan Sofuoğlu Track in Akyazı, Sakarya. He has noted that the 22-lap races in his early Superbike years were challenging, but he has since adapted. He has stated that his bike has advantages in corners and braking but struggles on circuits with long straights. ### The Sofuoğlu Family Tradition and Training Environment Bahattin Sofuoğlu conducts his training at the track in Akyazı, Sakarya, built by Kenan Sofuoğlu. He continues to train at the same facility as Can Öncü, who competes in the Supersport category. ### Statements and Goals Bahattin Sofuoğlu has stated that winning a world championship is among his career goals. His primary objective is to reach the podium in the World Superbike Championship. Should he achieve this, he will become the first Turkish rider to reach the podium in all three categories: Supersport 300, Supersport, and Superbike. He has also noted that if he wins the Superbike title, he will become the second Turkish rider to do so after Toprak Razgatlıoğlu.[^1] He said he carefully considered his decision to move to the Superbike category, noting that his first 1000cc motorcycle training session at Istanbul Park was decisive in this process. He has acknowledged that the 400cc power difference between the 600cc bikes used in Supersport and the 1000cc machines in Superbike, along with the technical modifications in the championship, made controlling the bike more difficult, but he finds the challenge rewarding. Bahattin Sofuoğlu has stated that he previously raced with factory teams but is currently with an independent team, and he aims to return to factory rider status.
