Origin

The word ḥucra(t) (حجرة) entered Turkish from the Arabic root ḥcr. It is related to the verb ḥacara, which means “to close, to separate, to limit.” In Turkish, the word initially denoted “room” or “enclosed space” and over time acquired additional meanings in biology and metaphorical contexts.
