Claude (Artificial Intelligence Assistant)

Claude is one of the projects designed by Anthropic’s artificial intelligence assistant. Claude is based on the company’s “Constitutional AI” research. First released in March 2023, Claude enables users to perform various text processing and chat tasks.

Claude Models and Development Timeline

Claude (March 2023): The initial version of Claude was designed for text processing and conversational tasks. However, it had limitations in coding, mathematics and logical execution reasoning. This version was developed in collaboration with companies such as Notion and Quora like.

Claude 2 (July 2023): The second version of Claude was released for general use, with its context window expanded to 100,000 tokens (approximately 75,000 word). This version gained the ability to read, summarize, and assist with tasks by uploading PDFs and other documents.

Claude 2.1 (November 2023): This update increased the context window to 200,000 tokens (approximately 150,000 words or 500 page). Additionally, the model’s likelihood of generating wrong information was reduced.

Claude 3 (March 2024): The third generation of Claude models was introduced in three different capacities: Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus. Opus is the largest and most capable model, with the ability to accept visual inputs.

Claude 3.5 (June 2024): Claude 3.5 Sonnet introduced improvements in coding, multi-step workflows, graph interpretation, and text extraction from images. Additionally, the “Artifacts” feature allows users to generate code and perform real real-time previews.

The latest version of Claude, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, was introduced in February 2025. Claude 3.7 Sonnet has been enhanced with the ability to extract information from visual data. It is designed to perform a wide range of tasks, from analyzing charts, diagrams, and complex visuals.

As of February 2025, it has been reported that Anthropic is finalizing a $3.5 billion funding round, and if it continues at its current pace, the company’s valuation could reach $61.5 billion by the end of the year.
