Glass (Film)

Glass is a psychological thriller with superhero themes and serves as the sequel to American director M. Night Shyamalan’s 2000 film Unbreakable and his 2016 film Split. With this film, Shyamalan unites the characters and narratives from his previous works to create an original cinematic universe. Glass was released in 2019 and is the first film to bring together the characters from the dual universe established by Unbreakable and Split.

The film centers on the reunion of three characters: David Dunn from Unbreakable (Bruce Willis), Kevin Wendell Crumb from Split (James McAvoy), and Mr. Glass from Unbreakable (Samuel L. Jackson). Dunn is an indestructible man with extraordinary abilities. Crumb suffers from dissociative identity disorder and is known for his most dangerous alter ego, "The Beast." Mr. Glass, despite having extremely fragile bones, possesses exceptional intelligence and seeks to create his own superhero mythos. After being institutionalized in a psychiatric hospital, the three characters confront each other and their own identities.

Thematically, Glass interrogates the concept of superheroism and issues of personal identity. Each character perceives themselves as a kind of hero, yet they are tested by the dangerous supernatural forces they represent and by the psychological and physical limits of their existence. Shyamalan frames this film as a "real-world adaptation" offering a fresh perspective on the superhero genre.
