Kadir İnanır (born 15 April 1949, Fatsa, Ordu) is a Turkish film and television actor. He has been active in the cinema industry since the late 1960s and has appeared in numerous films and television productions during the Yeşilçam era and beyond. He is known for his roles in films such as Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım, Yılanların Öcü, Tatar Ramazan, Bodrum Hakimi, Medcezir Manzaraları and Gönderilmemiş Mektuplar. In addition to his acting career, he has also worked as a screenwriter and director on several projects.
Kadir İnanır was born on 15 April 1949 in the Fatsa district of Ordu. He grew up as the youngest child in a family of fourteen siblings. İnanır spent his childhood in Fatsa and has stated that the environment and town life of that period significantly shaped his character and value system, laying the foundation for his acting roles.
Kadir İnanır completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown of Fatsa. He moved to Istanbul for high school and graduated from the historic Haydarpaşa High School, where he received boarding education. He acquired his theoretical foundation in cinema during his higher education at the Cinema and Television Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University.
His entry into the world of cinema began in 1967 when he reached the finals of the “Cinema Artist Competition” organized by the magazine Ses. He then appeared in the 1968 documentary Saklı Seçilmişler. His first professional film experience came in Atıf Yılmaz’s Kara Gözlüm (1970), in which he shared the lead role with Turkish cinema icon Türkan Şoray.
Throughout his career, Kadir İnanır has appeared in over 180 films and seven television series. He has collaborated with directors such as Atıf Yılmaz, Şerif Gören and Ömer Kavur, and has portrayed characters in socially realistic films adapted from the works of writers such as Sabahattin Ali, Yaşar Kemal and Necati Cumalı. The characters he portrayed—men who resist injustice, are tough and protective—became a cultural phenomenon known as “Kadirizm,” and have been studied as a social gender prototype in sociological research.【1】

Kadir İnanır launched a legal campaign against the unauthorized broadcasting of his old films on television channels, YouTube, and various digital platforms. In a ruling concluded in February 2026, the court found in İnanır’s favor, prohibiting the unauthorized use of his works and setting a legal precedent for actors’ copyright rights.【2】
On 24 March 2024, İnanır was taken to Ümraniye Education and Research Hospital after falling ill at his home in Beykoz. A blood clot (blockage) was detected in his brain vessel, prompting emergency surgery. Following the procedure, he was kept intubated and sedated under intensive care for monitoring before being extubated and transferred to physical rehabilitation.【3】

On 14 May 2026, İnanır suddenly lost consciousness at home and was rushed to Acıbadem Fulya Hospital in Beşiktaş. Initial assessments revealed an infection in his lungs due to chills (acute pneumonia). He was admitted to intensive care. Although his condition initially improved and he was kept under observation, his health deteriorated on 21 May 2026, leading to intubation. In a statement made by his wife Jülide Kural, it was announced that further tests detected a tumor beneath the pneumonia in his lungs. To enable easier medical intervention, minimize his suffering, and ensure a more controlled treatment process, the decision was made to keep him intubated during this critical phase.
