# Kübra Doğanay

> Kübra Doğanay is a civil servant who served as a deputy commissioner within Türkiye's security organization. She was martyred during an air attack on the unit where she was serving during the military coup attempt in Ankara on 15 July 2016.

## Article Content

[Kübra Doğanay](/en/detay/kubra-doganay-19a34/llms.txt) was born on 8 November 1993 in the Yeşilhisar district of [Kayseri](/en/detay/kayseri-9255b/llms.txt). She was one of three daughters in a family whose livelihood was based on agriculture. Doğanay spent her childhood and youth in Kayseri, and her family participated in official ceremonies held in the area where they resided following her death.[^1]

### Educational Journey and Academic Development

Doğanay completed her primary and secondary education at Mithatpaşa Ortaokulu in Yeşilhisar. For her high school education, she chose Fevziye Memduh Gübgüboğlu Anadolu Güzel Sanatlar Lisesi, which admits students through talent examinations.

After graduating from high school, she passed the university entrance exams and gained admission to both the Interior Architecture Department at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts and the Painting Teaching Department at Gazi University. Doğanay opted for Marmara University for her higher education. During her third year of undergraduate studies, she took part in the examinations and interviews for the position of assistant commissioner. Throughout this period, she continued her university education while also receiving professional training at the police academy in Florya, Istanbul. She graduated from both institutions in 2015.[^2]

### Professional Career and Duty Stages

Doğanay began her service in the security organization on 20 February 2016, when she was assigned to the Special Operations Directorate in Gölbaşı, Ankara. There, she served as an assistant commissioner and head of internal services.

At the beginning of her career, she was temporarily deployed to the Sur district of Diyarbakır, where she participated in operational activities for one month. After completing her duty in Sur, she returned to her unit in Ankara. One month before her death, she submitted a petition requesting reassignment to eastern provinces, motivated by her desire to serve in field operations.[^3]

### Events of 15 July 2016 and Martyrdom

[Following news of the 15 July 2016 coup attempt](/en/detay/15-temmuz-darbe-girisimi-8febf/llms.txt), she reported to her post at the Gölbaşı Special Operations Directorate. During the attacks that began around midnight, she lost her life at 00:01 as a result of the second bomb strike targeting the compound.

In her final phone call on the night of the incident, she informed her family that she was safe and urged them not to leave their home. Her body was identified at Ankara Ulus State Hospital the day after the attack.[^4]

### Funeral Process and Ceremony Details

Kübra Doğanay’s body was transferred to her hometown, Yeşilhisar district of Kayseri, on 18 July 2016. An official funeral ceremony was held at Cami Kebir Mosque in the district square, attended by state protocol officials, military personnel, and citizens.

After the funeral prayer, her body was laid to rest at Yeşilhisar District Cemetery. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Turkish flag wrapped around her coffin was handed to her father, Harun Doğanay, and her photograph was given to her mother, Hikmet Doğanay.[^5]

### Preservation of Her Memory

To honor her memory, several public institutions have been named after her. In accordance with this, a science high school in her hometown of Yeşilhisar, Kayseri, has been named Şehit Kübra Doğanay Fen Lisesi.[^6]
