Kümbet Plateau is located within the provincial borders of Giresun, in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Türkiye. It is approximately 1600 meters above sea level. Geographically, it is located southwest of the Giresun city center, within the borders of Dereli district. Although the plateau is located in the Black Sea climate zone, due to its high altitude, it exhibits cool and humid climate characteristics in summer and cold and snowy climate characteristics in winter.
Transportation and Geographical Structure
Access to Kümbet Plateau is provided by road. It is approximately 60 kilometers away from Giresun city center, and the access route is an asphalt road. The nearest airport to the plateau is Ordu-Giresun Airport, which is approximately 85 kilometers away.
The area around the plateau is surrounded by steep slopes, deep valleys, and forested areas. The vegetation of the region shows a structure that changes according to the seasons.
Settlement and Architectural Structure
The settlement in Kümbet Plateau shows a layout where traditional and modern structures coexist. Traditional structures feature stone-based and usually two-story houses, with the lower floors used as animal shelters and the upper floors as residences. Modern structures are generally built as two or three stories. In the bazaar area in the center of the plateau, the lower floors of some buildings are used for commercial purposes, while the upper floors are used as residences. Public buildings include a health center, PTT (post office), primary school, gendarmerie station, and mosque.

Tourism Activities and Plateau Festivals
Kümbet Plateau has been used in summer during various periods throughout history. The plateau festivals, which started in 1988 in the Salon Çayırı picnic area, have been organized under the name "Kümbet Plateau Festivals" in the Aymaç locality since 1990. These events are held annually in the second week of July and attract participation from different regions.
Accommodation and Infrastructure
The number and capacity of accommodation facilities used in the plateau have increased over time. In 1999-2000, there were approximately 6 accommodation facilities and a total of 50 beds in the region. Additionally, the Regional Directorate of Forestry provides various social amenities (rest houses, picnic areas, rain shelters, etc.) in the Salon Çayırı picnic area.
Visitor Profile and Tourism Impacts
An increase in the number of visitors staying in the plateau has been observed. According to interview results, a large portion of these visitors prefer the plateau for short-term nature-based rest and recreation. It has been determined that approximately 95% of them are domestic tourists, with a significant portion of this group being from Giresun. Foreign tourists have been identified as coming from Commonwealth of Independent States countries, as well as countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and England.
Economic and Social Contributions
The interest of visitors in local products has been observed to have impacts on the regional economy. Accommodation and food & beverage activities are believed to influence employment opportunities through the increase in the number of commercial businesses. Furthermore, the increase in the number of regularly operating commercial vehicles between Giresun-Dereli-Kümbet supports the economic activity in the region.
