These efforts hold historical significance in the context of campaigns for women’s political and social rights in Türkiye.

### **Life and Education**

Born in 1889 in the Kandilli neighborhood of Istanbul, Nezihe Muhiddin received private education and learned Arabic, Persian, German and French. From an early age she became interested in women’s education and freedom; she began her writing career at a young age and drew attention in her first articles to women’s rights and social gender inequalities.

### **Women’s People Party and Turkish Women’s Union**

One of Nezihe Muhiddin’s key initiatives in the context of the women’s movement in Türkiye was her attempt in 1923 to establish the Women’s People Party. This party represented an early step toward political representation for women, just before the proclamation of the Republic. However, the party was not officially recognized by the political authorities of the time.

Following this initiative, in 1924 she founded the Turkish Women’s Union to continue advocating for women’s social and political rights. The union launched campaigns on issues such as women’s right to vote and stand for election, access to education, and participation in the labor force.
