Oğuzhan Asiltürk (May 25, 1935, Malatya – October 1, 2021, Ankara) was a Turkish politician, engineer, and one of the leading figures of the Milli Görüş movement. He actively participated in politics for over half a century. As a close associate of Necmettin Erbakan, he contributed to both the theoretical and practical aspects of the Milli Görüş line, serving as a member of parliament, minister, and party official.

Childhood and Education

Oğuzhan Asiltürk was born on May 25, 1935, in Hekimhan district of Malatya. After completing his primary and secondary education in Malatya, he went to Istanbul for university education. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He used his technical knowledge in his later political career, particularly in infrastructure and industrial policies.

Engineering and Professional Career

After graduating from university, he worked as an engineer on various public and private sector projects. He worked as a freelance consultant for a period. With his engineering office, Asiltürk Proje, which he established in Ankara, he operated in the fields of construction, infrastructure, and consultancy.

Entry into Politics and the MSP Years

He began his political career in 1970 with the Millî Nizam Party. Following the closure of the MNP, he joined the founding cadre of the Millî Selamet Party, established in 1972. He was elected as an Ankara MP from the MSP in the 1973 and 1977 elections and served in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). In the CHP-MSP coalition government established in 1974, he served as the Minister of the Interior. In this role, he played an active role in Türkiye's domestic policies.

Subsequently, he also served in the cabinets of the Nationalist Front coalitions formed in 1975 and 1977, first as Minister of the Interior and later as Minister of Industry and Technology.

Post-1980 Coup Period and Political Ban

With the military coup of September 12, 1980, all political activities, including Oğuzhan Asiltürk's parliamentary mandate, came to an end. He was tried in the MSP case but acquitted. In the post-coup period, he was banned from politics for 10 years. His ban was lifted following the 1987 constitutional referendum, after which he returned to politics.

Welfare Party and the 1990s

Following the lifting of his ban, he joined the Refah Party and was elected as Secretary General. He returned to the TBMM as a Malatya MP in the 1991 general elections. The Refah Party emerged as the leading party in the 1995 elections. During this period, he became an active figure in the party's decision-making mechanisms. Following the closure of the RP in 1998, he joined the Fazilet Party (FP). He was part of the founding cadre of the Saadet Party (SP), established after the FP, and played a key role in the continuity of the movement.

Saadet Party and YİK Presidency

Although not actively involved in the 2000s, he served as the chairman of the Supreme Advisory Board (YİK), one of the most authoritative bodies of the Saadet Party. He served as the president of the Milli Görüş Foundation. He worked to maintain internal party balance and achieve unity in the post-Erbakan era.

Personal Life and Death

Known for his modest lifestyle, publicly available information about Oğuzhan Asiltürk's life is limited. He had four children from his marriage to Sevinç Asiltürk.
