Paşakonağı Yaylası

Paşakonağı Yaylası is located within the boundaries of Bulancak district in Giresun province, in Türkiye’s Black Sea Region. Situated at an average elevation of 1,450 metres above sea level, the plateau lies within Giresun’s provincial borders but is also in close proximity to the provinces of Sivas and Erzincan. Due to this geographical position, it serves as one of the transitional areas between the Eastern Black Sea and Central Anatolia regions.

The plateau lies along the route of the Green Road Project, which aims to connect the Eastern Black Sea plateaus. Access to the plateau is primarily via road, and the vehicle routes remain open and accessible during the summer months.

Physical and Geographic Characteristics

Paşakonağı Yaylası experiences cool summers and cold winters due to its high altitude and the influence of the Black Sea climate. The surrounding area is covered with forested land, where species such as fir, beech, and pine are commonly found. Additionally, there are streams and natural water sources in the vicinity of the plateau.

The plateau contains water sources suitable for drinking, which are used by local residents and visitors. Traditional Black Sea plateau life prevails on Paşakonağı Yaylası. During the summer months, the area is used as a temporary settlement by local residents, while it remains largely uninhabited during winter. The settlement pattern consists predominantly of wooden plateau houses, constructed in accordance with the region’s climatic and topographic conditions.

Activities held on the plateau include traditional picnics and plateau excursions. Additionally, local elements such as neighborhood relations, communal events, and the imece culture play a prominent role in the social life of the region.

Tourism Potential

Paşakonağı Yaylası is assessed for its tourism potential due to its natural and cultural features. Particularly during summer months, visitors arrive individually or in groups from Giresun city center and surrounding districts. The Paşakonağı Hotel, which began operations in 2014, provides accommodation services in the area. The plateau is also visited by tourists from various regions of Türkiye and, to a lesser extent, from Middle Eastern countries and Turkic Republics. Various events and festivals are organized on the plateau during both summer and winter seasons, contributing to the social dynamism of the region.
