After completing his primary and secondary education in his hometown, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at [Ankara](/en/detay/anadolu-4/llms.txt) University. #### **Career** Yazıcıoğlu began his civil service in 1968 as a district administrator in Aydın. Between 1971 and 1984, he served as district governor in Kalkandere, Bahçe, Hamur, Ayvacık, Kırıkhan, Alaca and Akçakoca. In 1975, he fulfilled his military service as a second lieutenant at the Command of the Land Forces. In 1984, at the age of 36, he was appointed governor of Tokat, becoming the youngest governor in Türkiye. He gained recognition for his successful work and strong public engagement in Tokat. On 14 August 1989, he was appointed governor of Aydın, and on 19 August 1991, governor of Erzincan. During his tenure in Erzincan, Yazıcıoğlu played an active role in crisis management and reconstruction efforts following the 13 March 1992 earthquake, coordinating public services effectively. While serving in Erzincan, Recep Yazıcıoğlu supported projects related to outdoor sports and nature tourism, contributing to the development of these sectors in the region. His management style, which departed from conventional governorship practices, attracted public attention. On 26 September 1999, he was appointed governor of the Central Province, and on 30 January 2003, governor of Denizli. He fell into a vegetative state two days later. He passed away on 8 September 2003 at Ibn Sina Hospital in Ankara. The television series *Köprü*, which focused on Yazıcıoğlu’s work in Erzincan and the construction of the [Başpınar Bridge](/en/detay/yavuz-sultan-selim-koprusu-3741b/llms.txt), was broadcast on Star TV between 2006 and 2008. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Ayşe Kulin, the series featured actor Erdal [Beşikçioğlu](/en/detay/besikduzu-ilce-e6bf2/llms.txt) portraying the character “Faruk Yazıcı,” based on Yazıcıoğlu. This endemic species grows only in the gypsum-rich areas between the Kemah and İliç districts of Erzincan.
