Origin

The French word sabotage is derived from the term meaning “to deliberately disrupt production or order.” This word stems from the French verb saboter, which means “to disrupt or spoil.” The verb saboter itself originates from the French word sabot, meaning “a wooden clog worn by peasants.”

• Military: Used to describe covert destruction activities aimed at disabling an enemy’s defense lines, ammunition depots or communication networks during times of war or conflict.
