# Sabri Orman

> Prof. Dr. Sabri Orman (1948–2020) was a Turkish academic, economist and historian known for his work on Islamic economics, economic history and especially the economic philosophy of Al-Ghazali, and who held positions at various universities in Türkiye and abroad.

## Article Content

Sabri [Forest](/en/detay/orman-750517/llms.txt) (1948, Kâhta, Adıyaman – 11 [June](/en/detay/haziran-748426/llms.txt) 2020, İstanbul) conducted significant research in economics and particularly in Islamic economics in Türkiye and held senior positions at the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye. Orman, who was fluent in Arabic, Persian and Ottoman Turkish, authored 12 books—four of which were original works, six were editions and two were [translation](/en/detay/tercume/llms.txt)—as well as numerous articles. Sabri Orman first enrolled at the Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute (1972) and subsequently at the Faculty of Economics, Istanbul University (1976). In 1981, he entered academia with his doctoral thesis titled **The Economics Philosophy of Al-Ghazali** at Istanbul University.
