Safranbolu Crystal Glass Terrace

Safranbolu Crystal Glass Terrace is a tourist structure located in the district of Safranbolu in the province of Karabük, situated on Tokatlı Canyon. It is recognized as Türkiye’s first glass observation terrace, offering visitors the opportunity to view the natural landscape from above and through a glass floor.

The Crystal Glass Terrace is located in the İncekaya neighborhood of Safranbolu, immediately adjacent to the historical İncekaya Water Channel, and designed as a platform extending over the deep valley of the Tokatlı Canyon.

The area where the terrace is situated lies within Safranbolu’s designated natural conservation zones and is characterized by dense vegetation, canyon topography, and water sources. This location enables the structure to function not only as an observation point but also as an observational space that enhances the perception of the natural landscape.

History and Construction Process

The Safranbolu Crystal Glass Terrace was developed to enhance Safranbolu’s tourism potential and present the region’s natural values to visitors from a unique perspective. As the first glass observation terrace in Türkiye constructed at this scale and with these technical specifications, it has attracted domestic and international tourists since its opening and has gradually become one of Safranbolu’s symbolic tourist attractions.

The structure has been temporarily closed to visitors on several occasions for maintenance and safety upgrades, after which it was renovated and reopened to continue welcoming guests.

The Crystal Glass Terrace is constructed on a steel support system, with its floor composed of high-strength, multi-layered, tempered glass panels. Positioned at approximately ten meters above ground level, the terrace is designed to provide visitors with the experience of viewing the canyon floor directly beneath them.

The structure’s load capacity has been calculated to safely accommodate a large number of visitors simultaneously, and the glass surfaces have undergone impact and load testing to meet national and international standards. The railings and walkways surrounding the terrace have been designed with both safety and viewing comfort in mind.
