TEKNOFEST Aviation Artificial Intelligence Competition

TEKNOFEST The AI in Aviation Competition is an interdisciplinary technology contest organized within the scope of National Technology Initiative, representing Türkiye’s technological development vision. The competition integrates artificial intelligence and aviation technologies to encourage participants to develop autonomous systems and enhance Türkiye’s expertise in this field.

The primary objective of the competition is to generate innovative, AI-based solutions to problems encountered in the aviation sector, thereby strengthening the country’s technological competition capacity. Simultaneously, it aims to increase technological accumulation, cultivate qualified human resources, and reinforce Türkiye’s independence in aviation and technology. The competition not only equips participants with technical technical skills but also fosters interdisciplinary thinking, problem-solving competence, and teamwork.

Students from high schools or higher education institutions (including associate’s, undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and open education programs) in Türkiye or abroad, as well as university graduates, may participate in teams. Teams must consist of at least two and no more than five members. The competition does not accept individual applications and is conducted on a team basis.

The competition consists of three main stages:

1. Preliminary Design Report (PDR): Participating teams submit a design report outlining their proposed solutions and technical approaches.
2. Online Competition Simulation: Developed artificial intelligence algorithms are tested in a virtual environment and evaluated for performance.
3. Final Presentations: Teams present the final version of their projects to the jury, explaining technical details and solution outcomes.

The competition’s application areas span a broad spectrum. Participants develop AI solutions for original scenarios such as:

• Algorithms for object detection using image processing techniques,
• GPS-free positioning systems,
• Target tracking,
• Autonomous flight decision systems,
• Route planning and air traffic optimization.

In this regard, the competition extends beyond aviation, providing a comprehensive platform for innovation and development in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, simulation engineering, and software engineering like.

The TEKNOFEST AI in Aviation Competition is an initiative that directly contributes to Türkiye’s national technological development capacity, encourages young talent, and highlights innovative solutions in strategic fields. Young engineer candidates serve as both a learning platform and a display case hub for engineers and technology entrepreneurs.
