Uçmakdere, a neighborhood in the Şarköy district of Tekirdağ, is a former Greek settlement that has preserved its historical structure. Located on the shores of the Marmara Sea at the foothills of the Ganos Mountains, the region stands out due to its geographical features and climatic conditions, making it a suitable destination for paragliding and nature tourism.
Paragliding and Sports Activities in Uçmakdere
In 2007, the Tekirdağ Governorship opened a road from Yeniköy to Nişantepe at an altitude of 625 meters and designated Ayvasıl Mevkii as a landing area. With these developments, the Yeniköy-Uçmakdere route was made available for paragliding enthusiasts. Due to its altitude, wind conditions, and wide landing areas, the region is preferred by both amateur and professional pilots.

Following these developments, Tekirdağ Paragliding Club (TEYAK) was established on December 30, 2010, by Sadri Özel, Sanlı Fidan, and Kıvanç Altun. The club was founded with the aim of promoting paragliding, developing aviation activities in the region, and increasing Tekirdağ’s recognition in this field. Over more than five years of operation, numerous projects and events have been carried out, attracting many domestic and international athletes and visitors.
Nature and Tourism
Besides paragliding, Uçmakdere is also known for hiking, camping, and eco-tourism activities. The natural structure of the Ganos Mountains provides suitable areas for trekking and camping, while the coastal campgrounds along the Marmara Sea offer accommodation options for visitors.
Due to its proximity to Istanbul, Uçmakdere receives a high number of visitors, especially on weekends and during holidays. Local businesses in the area offer regional products and traditional village breakfasts, enhancing visitors’ engagement with the region.
Uçmakdere’s Role in Tourism
According to the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Uçmakdere plays an important role in Tekirdağ’s tourism diversity. The combination of marine tourism, nature sports, and agricultural tourism contributes significantly to the region’s economic activity. The nearby Kartaltepe Nature Park also attracts visitors looking for a peaceful experience in nature.
