Throughout his career, he worked as a correspondent in international conflict zones, produced documentaries, engaged in academic activities, and participated in the founding process of the İYİ Party. ### Early Life and Education Vedat Yenerer was born in Istanbul in 1965. After completing his primary, secondary, and high school education in Istanbul, he graduated from the Department of English Journalism at the Faculty of Communication, Eskişehir Anadolu University.[^1] ### Journalism Career and War Correspondence Yenerer began his journalism career during university in 1985 at the Eskişehir Sakarya Newspaper. While studying, he worked as a correspondent for the Sipa Press agency and Cumhuriyet Newspaper (1987–1992). He gained his first experience as a war correspondent during the 1989 Romanian Civil War.[^2] Throughout his career, he served as a war correspondent and head of news research at institutions including Show TV (1992–1993, 1996–1997), Star TV (1993–1994), 32. Gün Programı (1995–1996), Kanal D, and Habertürk (1999–2002). During this period, he reported from various conflict zones around the world, including Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Albania, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Eritrea, Georgia, Sudan, Somalia, and Kashmir.[^3] ### Production, Publishing, and Academic Activities In 2002, Yenerer founded VY Production Limited Company and produced documentaries on Iraqi Turkmen titled “Çileli Efendiler,” “Tribün Terörü,” and “Türbeler.” In the same year, he held an exhibition titled “War Photographs” at the Istanbul Atatürk Cultural Center, featuring 90 photographs taken across 19 conflict zones.[^4] Yenerer established the news portals internetajans.com and medyarazzi.com. In 2005, he launched the news and current affairs magazine “Durum.” In 2014, he launched “Mehmetçik TV – Defense and Security Portal.” Academically, he taught “International Journalism” at the Faculty of Communication, Istanbul University, between 2005 and 2006. Additionally, he wrote a weekly column for Yeniçağ Newspaper between 2004 and 2008.[^5] ### Political Career In 2017, Vedat Yenerer became a member of the founding board of the İYİ Party, established under the leadership of Meral Akşener. He ran as a parliamentary candidate for Istanbul from the İYİ Party in the general elections on 24 June 2018 but was not elected. In 2023, he resigned from the party, citing criticism of its managerial approaches and relations with other political parties.[^6] ### Legal Proceedings On 22 February 2008, Yenerer was detained as part of the Ergenekon investigation and arrested on 26 February 2008. After approximately eleven months in detention, he was released on 24 January 2009. (2017)[^8] ### Illness and Death In June 2026, Vedat Yenerer was diagnosed with a brain tumor and received treatment for a period in the Intensive Care Unit of the Neurology Clinic at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine.[^9] Yenerer was declared brain dead on 28 July 2026 and passed away on 29 July 2026 at the age of 61.
