Weapon Museum

Weapons Museum is a museum located in Kırıkkale and operates under the General Directorate of MKEK Silahsan Light Industry and Trade Inc., part of the Machine and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK). The museum was first opened to the public on 15 July 1990 and was subsequently reopened on 2 November 1993 in a larger facility after being reorganized. The museum houses significant artifacts related to Türkiye’s arms production and military history.

Artifacts on Display

The Weapons Museum possesses a collection of various weapons produced from the 14th century to the present day. The 299 artifacts on display are arranged chronologically and include weapons from the Ottoman Empire period, European weapons, war equipment, shields, helmets, steel breastplates, and firearms. Additionally, during wartime periods of steel shortages, some weapons were melted down and reshaped in steel factories.

Notable Artifacts

Among the standout artifacts in the museum are arrows and swords dating back to the 14th century, which provide insight into the warfare techniques and weapon usage of that era. The museum also displays Ottoman-era weapons, Western weapons, and various firearms from the 15th and 16th centuries. Included among the weapons are some of the earliest firearms used by the Ottomans and other types of arms employed during wartime.

Domestic and National Weapons

The Weapons Museum also exhibits domestically produced and national weapons manufactured by MKEK. Selected weapons used in Türkiye’s defense industry are displayed alongside information on their production processes, highlighting technological advancements over time.

New Museum Building and Interactive Features

Initially accessible only by special permission, the Weapons Museum is now open to the general public. Located in a new building in Kırıkkale, the museum features an expanded exhibition area. Approximately 500 artifacts will be displayed in this new facility, including items officially cataloged by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums. Furthermore, the museum will be equipped with technological innovations such as simulation devices and virtual reality applications.
