Yakutiye is a central district of Erzurum province, located in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Situated north of Erzurum city center, it achieved its district status in 2008 when Erzurum's central district was divided into three. Its area is approximately 260 km² and its altitude is about 1,750 meters. Aziziye district is to its east, Palandöken to its south, and Pasinler to its west. Its geography mainly consists of plains, although some hilly areas are also present. It experiences a continental climate; winters are cold with heavy snowfall, while summers are mild and dry.
Yakutiye forms the historical and commercial heart of Erzurum city center. Many historical structures, public institutions, and businesses are located within its boundaries. It plays a significant role in Erzurum's cultural and economic life.

History
The settlement history of Yakutiye district is intertwined with that of Erzurum city center. Throughout history, the region has been home to various civilizations including the Urartians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and others. As Erzurum became an important center during the Seljuk period, settlements and activities increased in Yakutiye and its surroundings. Erzurum maintained its importance during the Ottoman period and continued to be the administrative and commercial center of the region after the proclamation of the Republic. With its acquisition of district status in 2008, Yakutiye gained a new place in Erzurum's administrative structure.

Geography and Climate
Yakutiye district is located in the northern part of the Erzurum Plain. While there are no significant elevations within the district boundaries, it extends to the foothills of the Palandöken Mountains to the south. The district exhibits the typical characteristics of a continental climate, with long winters featuring freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. Summers are short and generally mild. The average annual temperature is around 6-7 °C, and the average annual rainfall is around 400-450 mm.

Population and Demographics
According to the 2024 Address-Based Population Registration System data, the population of Yakutiye is 182,887. Of this population, 90,152 are male and 92,735 are female. Almost the entire district population lives in the district center. Being part of Erzurum city center, access to health and other social services is easy. The proximity of Atatürk University to the city center contributes to the high density of young people in the district.
Economy
The economy of Yakutiye district is largely based on the service sector, commerce, and public activities. Because it is the main commercial center of Erzurum city center, numerous businesses, banks, and public institutions are located within the district's boundaries. The presence of Atatürk University also makes a significant contribution to the district's economy. Agriculture and livestock farming play a more limited role in the district's economy compared to other sectors.

As part of Erzurum city center, Yakutiye has well-developed transportation options. It is connected to all parts of Turkey by road. Its proximity to Erzurum Airport provides easy air travel access. Various options such as buses, minibuses, and taxis are available for city transportation.
The Yakutiye Municipality is responsible for the administrative affairs of all settlements within the district boundaries and works in coordination with the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality.
