Yozgat Bozok University (YOBÜ)

Yozgat Bozok University (YOBÜ) is a public university located in the center of Yozgat Province. Established in 2006, the university continues its higher education activities across its campuses in Yozgat city and its districts. Yozgat Bozok University was established as an independent institution by Law No. 5467 dated 1 March 2006, published in the Official Gazette on 17 March 2006. The academic foundations of the institution are rooted in the Yozgat Vocational School, established in 1982 under Erciyes University, and the Vocational School opened in 1989 under Gazi University. These two schools were merged in 1994 and attached to Erciyes University.

History

During the university’s establishment process, the Faculty of Engineering-Architecture and the Faculty of Agriculture became operational in 1992, the Faculty of Science-Letters and the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences in 1994, the Health Vocational School in 1996, and the Akdağmadeni Vocational School under Cumhuriyet University in 1997. In 2006, these units were brought together under the umbrella of Yozgat Bozok University by law.

In 2020, the university was included among specialized institutions under the Higher Education Council’s (YÖK) “Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project” with its project titled “Industrial Hemp for Sustainable Biomaterials and Bioenergy.”^【1】

Campuses

The university has two main campuses in the Atatürk Avenue area of Yozgat Central District: the Erdoğan Akdağ Eastern Campus and the Bilal Şahin Western Campus. In the city center, the rectorate protocol building, the Faculty of Dentistry building, and units located in the Esentepe area are also situated. In addition to the central campuses, the university has campuses in the districts of Sorgun, Akdağmadeni, Yerköy, Boğazlıyan, Şefaatli, Çekerek and Sarıkaya.

Student Profile

The university offers education at the associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. According to the latest data, the total number of students is 23,505.^【2】 Admission to undergraduate and associate degree programs is conducted based on scores from the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), organized by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). For graduate programs, admission is based on ALES scores and foreign language proficiency scores.

Yozgat Bozok University offers various undergraduate and associate degree programs through its faculties and vocational schools.

Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate programs are delivered by faculties and four-year vocational schools. The Faculty of Education includes programs in Science Education, Primary Mathematics Education, English Language Teaching, Preschool Education, Classroom Teaching, Social Studies Education and Turkish Language Teaching, as well as Guidance and Psychological Counseling.

The Faculty of Science-Letters offers programs in English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Art History, Sociology, History and Turkish Language and Literature.

The Faculty of Engineering-Architecture offers programs in Computer Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, as well as Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning. The Faculty of Agriculture provides education in programs such as Horticultural Crops, Plant Protection, Agricultural Economics and Field Crops.

Undergraduate health programs are offered by the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine, as well as by the Faculty of Health Sciences, which includes programs in Child Development, Midwifery, Nursing and Social Work. Additionally, associate degree programs in Nursing and Occupational Health and Safety are offered at the Akdağmadeni campus, and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Sarıkaya campus.

The Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences includes departments in Finance and Banking, Economics, Business Administration, Public Finance, Health Management, Political Science and Public Administration, and International Relations. The Faculty of Communication offers programs in Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising, Radio Television and Cinema, and New Media and Communication.

Other undergraduate programs include Law at the Faculty of Law, Theology at the Faculty of Theology, and Sports Management at the Faculty of Sports Sciences.

Associate Degree Programs

Associate degree programs are delivered through vocational colleges located in the central district and other districts. The Health Services Vocational College and the Çekerek Fuat Oktay Health Services Vocational College offer programs in Anesthesia, Child Development, Pharmacy Services, Home Patient Care, First and Emergency Aid, Health Institution Management, Medical Documentation and Secretarial Services, Medical Imaging Techniques, Medical Promotion and Marketing, and Elderly Care.

The Yozgat Vocational College offers technical programs such as Culinary Arts, Computer-Aided Design, Computer Programming, Big Data Analytics, Electricity, Electronic Technology, Graphic Design, Construction Technology, Machinery, Automotive, Radio and Television Programming, and Agricultural Machinery, as well as programs in Office Management, Call Center Services, Business Management and Civil Defense and Firefighting.

Vocational colleges in the districts offer programs tailored to local dynamics and sectoral needs. The Sorgun Vocational College includes specialized programs such as Opticianry and Rail Systems Machinery Technology. The Yerköy Vocational College focuses on justice and social security, offering programs in Penal Execution and Security Services, Court Office Services and Social Security.

Other district vocational colleges continue educational activities in various programs including Banking and Insurance, Food Technology, Laboratory and Veterinary Health, Architectural Restoration, Forestry and Forest Products, Private Security and Protection, and Land Registry and Cadastre at the Akdağmadeni, Boğazlıyan and Şefaatli campuses.

International Activities

In line with its internationalization strategy, Yozgat Bozok University is a member of exchange programs such as Erasmus+. Through these programs, the university supports student and staff mobility with partner universities abroad.

Awards and Achievements

The university has won various awards in academic projects, technology competitions and accessibility initiatives.

Disability-Free University Awards (2022): At the awards organized by the Higher Education Council (YÖK), the university received a total of 10 flags: one Orange Flag in the “Accessibility in Space” category, seven Green Flags in the “Accessibility in Education” category, and two Blue Flags in the “Accessibility in Socio-Cultural Activities” category.^【3】

TEKNOFEST 2024 Achievements: University teams achieved the following rankings in the TEKNOFEST 2024 competition in Aviation, Space and Technology:

• IEEE Route 66 Team: 1st in Turkey in the Agricultural Unmanned Ground Vehicle category, 20th in Turkey in the Agricultural Technologies category,
• AyaDor2024 Team: 2nd in Turkey in the Accessibility Technologies for Daily Life category,
• Gözcü Team: 5th in Turkey in the Intelligent Transportation category,
• LEMATEK Team: 7th in Turkey in the Accessibility Technologies for Daily Life (University and Above Level) category,
• FAMİLİAR Team: 7th in Turkey in the Agricultural Technologies category,
• BeeM Team: 9th in Turkey in the Robotaxis Autonomous Passenger Vehicle category,
• Techscience Educators Team: Ranked among the top 10 in the 2242 University Student Research Project Competition.^【4】

Other Project and Design Awards: The PERMIA team won first prize in the “New World: Deep Space Colony Idea and Design Competition” organized by the Space Exploration Community Association (UKET). Additionally, the university team won first place in the 2024 Ziya Tanalı National Student Architectural Project Competition.^【5】

TÜBİTAK Project Support: The project titled “Determination of the Effects of Hazelnut Husk Smoke Solution on the Growth and Development of Strawberry Seedlings Exposed to High Temperature Stress,” conducted within the Faculty of Agriculture, has been granted support under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Program.^【6】

Student Life

Students’ housing needs are met by dormitories operated by the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK) and private dormitories located in Yozgat city center and districts. On campus, facilities are available for students to engage in social and cultural activities alongside their academic development.
