Zülfü Livaneli was born on 20 June 1946 in Konya. The child of a family originally from Kırşehir, Livaneli spent his childhood in various cities. He began his education in Ankara but was forced to leave the country due to his political and artistic activities.

In the 1970s, he pursued musical education in Stockholm and Paris, elevating his artistic career to an international level. During this period, he was influenced by political and artistic movements in Europe and built his intellectual framework on these experiences.

Livaneli began his musical career in the early 1970s with protest and folk music. He gained attention in 1973 with the album “Chants Révolutionnaires Turcs,” and later established a significant place in Turkish music history with albums such as “Merhaba” (1977), “Atlılar” (1984), and “Gökkuşağı Gibi” (1997).

His musical style is a synthesis of Turkish folk music, Western classical elements, and the ethos of protest music. His compositions prominently feature themes of social justice, peace, and human rights.

In addition to his musical career, Livaneli has produced numerous literary works. His novels, including “Engereğin Gözü” (1996), “Mutluluk” (2002), and “Serenad” (2011), have reached wide audiences both in Türkiye and internationally.
