Location and Access

The park is situated 42 kilometres south of the Ayancık district center. This distance consists of 38 kilometres of asphalt road along the Ayancık-Kastamonu route and the remaining 4 kilometres on a stabilized forest road. Regular bus services operate from Ayancık to Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Samsun and Kastamonu, while minibuses also connect Ayancık to Kastamonu, Sinop central district and Türkeli district.

Physical Structure and Hydrography

Akgöl is an artificial lake formed by the confluence of two streams flowing through the surrounding oriental beech forests and covers an area of approximately three decares.

Vegetation

The park’s vegetation consists of a rich and dense forest structure. Along the shores, broadleaf forests, shrublands, thickets and cultivated plants are found; as elevation increases, coniferous trees become dominant. Tree species such as pine, oriental beech, oak, hornbeam, beech, maple, black poplar, linden, plane tree, chestnut and poplar, along with various shrub and scrub species, are widespread throughout the park.

Wildlife

Mammalian wildlife including brown bear, chamois, badger, roe deer, squirrel, wild boar, hare and wolf live naturally within the park.

Infrastructure and Facilities

No operational facilities currently exist within the area. Development plans include the construction of a scenic terrace with lake views on the southeast slope of Kabaktarla Tepe, as well as the creation of walking trails, day-use areas, tented camping zones and nature hiking routes around the lake.

Use and Recreation

Akgöl Nature Park is suitable for day visits, allowing picnicking around the lake and nature walks. Due to its natural scenery, the park is also favored for photography activities. A facility owned by the Forest Management Directorate is located near the lake.

Planning and Conservation Status

Landscape and implementation projects for the park have been completed, and efforts are ongoing to implement these plans on-site.
