Erdemli Lamont Lemon

Erdemli Lamas Lemon is an agricultural product grown in the Erdemli district of Mersin Province, Türkiye, belonging to the species Citrus limon, and included in both unprocessed and processed fruit categories. The product has been registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office under the Industrial Property Law No. 6769 as a “Geographical Indication” and has been protected under geographical indication status since 21 October 2019.

The climatic conditions within its geographical boundary—particularly its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, the protective effect of the Taurus Mountains to the north, and its microclimate—shape its taste, quality and yield characteristics.

• Planting distances vary according to soil structure and rootstock: 6.5x6.5 m, 6x6 m or 6x7 m
• Trees begin fruiting at 4–5 years of age
• Trunk diameter reaches an average of 10 cm by age 10

In October, after the first rains, trees are treated with 50% copper oxychloride to protect against excessive moisture and fungal diseases.

After harvest, the product is packaged and allowed to rest for a period before being stored in natural storage facilities. It may remain on the tree for a limited time but must be brought directly to market. It is suitable for long-term storage.

Restricted to the Erdemli district of Mersin Province, Türkiye.

At least one annual inspection is carried out by designated experts under the coordination of the Erdemli District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, in collaboration with:

• Alata Fruit Crops Research Institute Directorate
• Erdemli Chamber of Agriculture

Additional inspections are conducted as needed or in response to complaints.
