Where Is It Located?
Beyşehir Lake lies on the border between Konya and Isparta provinces. It is surrounded by mountains rising over 2,000 meters in height, which stand like a giant wall protecting the lake. The lake lies at an elevation of 1,121 meters above sea level, making it a high-altitude lake.
What Are Its Geographic Features?
Beyşehir Lake is a tectonic lake, formed by the accumulation of water in depressions created by movements in the Earth’s crust. The lake is approximately 45 kilometers long and up to 24 kilometers wide at its broadest point, with a surface area of 651 square kilometers.
Inside the lake there are exactly 33 islands of various sizes. The largest of these, Mada Island, even hosts a village. Other well-known islands include Hacı Akif Island and Kızkulesi Island.
The World of Life
Beyşehir Lake is home to many animals and plants. The extensive reed beds around the lake are a paradise for birds. Thousands of birds such as the dalmatian pelican, ducks, geese and cormorants live here. For some bird species, this area is a critically important site for nesting and raising their young.
The lake’s waters contain various fish species such as carp, sea bass and pike-perch. Additionally, mammals such as wild boar, fox and jackal can be seen around the lake’s shores.

The islands of Beyşehir Lake have hosted different civilizations in the past. For example, on Çeçen Island, remains of ancient settlements and tiles from a bathhouse have been discovered.
