Brave, Determined, and Fearless Woman: Hazreti Sümeyye

Hazreti Sümeyye is one of the most important women in Islamic history. She lived during The first Muslims who embraced Islam and demonstrated great determination in defense of the values she believed in. For this reason, she is remembered by Muslims as the first female martyr of Islam.

Known in full as Hazreti Sümeyye, she lived at a time when most people worshipped idols and the belief in one God had not yet spread widely. Islam was only beginning to be taught, and those who accepted this faith were few in number. Those who embraced Islam often faced hardship because they chose to follow what they knew to be true.

Sümeyye bint Hubbat was married to Yâsir bin Âmir. Together they had a son named Ammâr. She supported her family through hard work and lived an honest and upright life.

🌙Her Introduction to Islam and Faith

Sümeyye bint Hubbat was among the first people to accept Islam. She chose Belief in one God, and this faith gave her patience, truthfulness, and strength.

Along with her husband and son, she was among the first seven people to openly declare their conversion to Islam. She did not conceal her beliefs and stood by The Islamic Prophet, Hz. Muhammad (peace be upon him) in his struggle.

🌧️Difficult Days and Patience

In the early years of Islam, some converts were not welcomed by those around them. Sümeyye bint Hubbat and her family therefore endured great hardship. They were pressured to abandon their faith. Yet she refused to turn away from the values she believed in and remained patient.

Sümeyye bint Hubbat suffered persecution because of her Islam. She lost her life because she refused to renounce her faith. Thus, she is remembered as the first female martyr in Islamic history. Her steadfastness became an important example for Muslims.
