Düzce
City of Waterfalls and Ancient Cities
⚖️ Historical Development
Düzce’s history extends back to the Hittites (1390 BCE). It later became an important settlement during the Roman and Byzantine periods and was known as Konsopa during the Ottoman era.
In 1871 it became a district and in 1999 it attained provincial status.
During the Republican era it developed significantly due to its strategic location, situated along the D-100 and TEM highways, granting it advantageous access to major cities such as Istanbul and Ankara.
📜 Its mention as “Tuz Pazarı” in Evliya Çelebi’s Seyahatname is also noteworthy.
