Uşak Atatürk and Ethnography Museum
Uşak Atatürk and Ethnography Museum is a unique museum that preserves the memory of Atatürk and narrates the traditional culture of Uşak. It is housed in a former Ottoman mansion where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed during his visit to Uşak. Today, this historic residence has been transformed into a museum that conveys its past.
History
This elegant mansion was built in the late 19th century by a wealthy family living in Uşak. In 1923, Atatürk stayed in this house during his visit to the city, making the building a highly valuable site that evokes the early years of the Republic. Years later, in 1978, the Ministry of Culture purchased the house and opened it to the public in 1981 as the “Atatürk and Ethnography Museum” in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Atatürk’s birth.

Architectural Features
The museum building is three stories high, with the ground floor constructed of stone and the upper floors of wood. These characteristics make it an excellent example of Ottoman-era residential architecture.
With its wide eaves, projecting windows and symmetrical layout, it presents the typical appearance of a Turkish mansion.
Inside, the stone entrance area, the sofa (corridor), and the rooms have been preserved according to the traditional layout.
Wooden decorations, Baroque-style details, and cast-iron windows lend the building an elegant appearance. Thus, the museum is not only a lesson in history through its exhibits but also through its architecture.

Sections of the Museum
The museum consists of two main sections: Atatürk’s Room and the Ethnography Section.
- Atatürk’s Room: The room where Atatürk stayed has been preserved exactly as it was during his time. It contains his bed, desk, chair, and photographs from the period. This room is the most special part of the museum.
- Ethnography Section: This section displays artifacts related to the traditional lifestyle of the people of Uşak. Carpets, kilims, clothing, jewelry, kitchen utensils, and handcrafts from the 19th and 20th centuries are exhibited here.
- In particular, examples related to Uşak carpet weaving provide visitors with insight into the region’s cultural heritage.
