Yozgat Çamlığı National Park
Yozgat Çamlığı National Park is located immediately south of Yozgat Province in Türkiye’s Central Anatolia Region. It was the first area in Türkiye to be protected as a national park! Thus, it is one of the earliest designated spaces established specifically for the conservation of nature.
Why Is It Special?
What makes this park unique is the presence of black pine trees in the midst of Central Anatolia’s steppe. It is rare to find such a large concentration of black pines in one place! Moreover, some of these trees are 400 to 500 years old, meaning they may have been born even before the Ottoman period!
What Can Be Found in the Park?
The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Birds, foxes, rabbits and occasionally squirrels roam the forest. Additionally, there are 212 species of plants belonging to 43 different plant families. Approximately 30 of these plant species grow only in this region; meaning they are found nowhere else on Earth!
What Activities Are Available?
Yozgat Çamlığı is an ideal destination for nature lovers. The park features walking trails, bicycle paths, picnic areas, and viewing terraces. There is also a nature education center for those wishing to learn more about the natural environment. At this center, children can learn about animals, plants and forest life through three-dimensional models.
Why Must It Be Protected?
Yozgat Çamlığı is not merely a forest—it is also a treasure for future generations. Therefore, protecting the trees, refraining from littering, and quietly observing nature are of great importance. The park serves as a place where people can rest and nature can thrive in peace.
