Kırşehir Museum
Hello! Have you ever wondered about the history of any city? Museums are like the memory of a city or a country. They preserve objects thousands of years old and clues about how people lived in the past. The Kırşehir Museum is a wonderful place that tells the story of Kırşehir and its surroundings from ancient times to the present.
Let’s take a short journey into the past at this museum and see what treasures it holds!
What Is in the Museum? 🏺
The Kırşehir Museum is a mixed museum, meaning it contains both archaeological and ethnographic artifacts. But what do these terms mean?
Archaeology studies very ancient objects unearthed from the ground. In the archaeological section of the Kırşehir Museum, you can see statues, pottery (clay vessels), decorative items, and ancient coins (numismatics) used by people who lived thousands of years ago. These objects provide us with information about life in those times.
The museum also has tombstones from the Seljuk period and even small chests (special coffins) made for children.

Traces of Life in the Past 👒
The museum’s ethnography section shows us how people lived more recently—for example, how our great-grandparents lived. Here you can see traditional clothing unique to Kırşehir, handwoven carpets, and kilims.
There is also a reconstructed room showing what an old Kırşehir house looked like. You can closely examine the household items people of that era used, such as copper vessels.
A Journey Through Time ⏳
Some of the objects in the museum come from Kaman-Kalehöyük, a very ancient settlement. Archaeologists (scientists who study the past through excavation) have been conducting digs there since 1986. The artifacts found there prove that people lived in Kırşehir thousands of years ago, during a period known as the Early Bronze Age. This dates back nearly 4,000 to 5,000 years!

What Is Ahilik? 🤝
One of the most important sections of the Kırşehir Museum is dedicated to “Ahilik.” Ahilik was a guild of craftsmen and tradespeople that began in Kırşehir hundreds of years ago.
Ahilik is based on principles such as honesty, generosity, and doing good work. Just as fairness in a game means everyone waits for their turn, Ahilik teaches fairness and integrity in business. In the museum, you can see documents related to Ahilik and the tools used by craftsmen of that era.
