Nemrut Mountain

Nemrut Dağı is a uniquely significant mountain located in southeastern Türkiye, in the province of Adıyaman. At its summit lie colossal statues and tombs constructed thousands of years ago. Nemrut Dağı is regarded as one of the most fascinating and mysterious places in the world.

About 2,200 years ago, King Antiochus I of the Kingdom of Commagene commissioned massive statues of himself and the gods. These statues are so large they inspire awe. The king’s tomb is also located at the peak of the mountain, though its exact location has not yet been fully determined.

The most striking feature of Nemrut Dağı is its massive stone statues of human and animal figures. The heads of these statues appear separated from their bodies because centuries of wind and rain have eroded them. Some statues reach heights of up to eight meters!

Climbing Nemrut Dağı is somewhat challenging because the summit is very high—approximately 2,150 meters. Yet everyone who reaches it enjoys a remarkable day immersed in both history and nature.
