Atatürk Train Car Museum - Ankara
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s special train carriage used during his nationwide tours—have you ever wondered what it was like? Atatürk Vagonu Müzesi is precisely the place where you can see this important carriage. Trains are remarkable vehicles that carry us to different places, and this carriage transported Atatürk to many cities across Anatolia.
🚂 Where Is the Carriage Located?
This special carriage is displayed inside Ankara Station, right next to the Atatürk Konutu ve Demiryolları Müzesi. Ankara Station was already an important site in the 1920s. During the War of Independence, Atatürk used a residence next to the station building as his headquarters—the center where crucial decisions were made. The museum has been open to visitors since 1964.

🚂 What Are the Features of the Carriage?
Atatürk used this carriage for his travels across Anatolia from 1935 until his death in 1938. The carriage was part of a train series known as the Beyaz Tren.
The exterior of the carriage is painted blue on the lower half and white on the upper half. This special carriage consists of eight compartments in total, including Atatürk’s bedroom, study room, bathroom, and relaxation area. The interior surfaces are lined with wooden paneling made from walnut and ebony wood. Ebony wood is a dark-colored, hard, and durable type of wood.

🚂 What Is Inside the Carriage?
In the salon, a table and chairs made of ebony wood are on display. Here you can also see a gramophone (record player) and a radio that played the records Atatürk listened to during his travels. Additionally, you can view personal items such as a backgammon set and a chess set.
🚂 A Journey Through Time
After Atatürk’s death, this carriage was also used to transport his body from İzmit to Ankara on 19 and 20 November 1938. Thus, this carriage became a witness not only to his travels but also to a solemn farewell.
