Bolvadin Museum
The Bolvadin Museum, much like a great treasure chest, preserves the objects used and the traces left by people who lived in the past. Museums are vital buildings that reveal the history of a city or region—what life was like in ancient times, how people lived, and what objects they used. This museum sheds light on just how ancient and deeply rooted the history of Bolvadin district in Afyonkarahisar is.
Time Travel ⏳
The Bolvadin Museum is housed in a historic building known today as the Yanık Kışla, which suffered damage during the War of Independence at the hands of Greek forces. The Yanık Kışla was originally an old military structure that was damaged during wartime roughly a century ago. This historic building was restored and renovated in 2008 and converted into a museum. In this way, both a significant historical structure was preserved and a suitable home was found for Bolvadin’s valuable artifacts.

What Is in the Museum? 🏺
Inside the Bolvadin Museum you will find two types of artifacts: archaeological and ethnographic.
Archaeological Artifacts
These are relics and fragments unearthed from beneath the earth, dating back to very ancient times. The museum displays items from the Early Bronze Age (approximately 5,000 years ago!) as well as pieces from ancient civilizations such as the Romans and Byzantines, including sarcophagus fragments, tombstones, and ancient coins. These artifacts provide insight into the cultures and beliefs of people who lived in the region thousands of years ago.
Ethnographic Artifacts
These artifacts consist of everyday objects used by people who lived in Bolvadin and its surroundings in recent history. The museum features specially designed sections that recreate the living rooms and bridal chambers of former residents. In these rooms you can see furniture, handicrafts, clothing, and kitchenware from that era. Additionally, there are exhibits that illustrate local arts such as poppy cultivation and reed weaving from the shores of Eber Lake.

Coinage and Sacred Texts 📜
The museum’s collection includes a large number of coins from the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. Ancient coins serve as miniature historical records, depicting the kings, sultans, and significant events of their times. In addition, an important part of the museum’s holdings is its archive of handwritten copies of the Qur’an and other valuable documents.
