🕰️ A Brief History
The history of Giresun extends back to antiquity, to the 7th century BCE. Known in ancient times as Kerasus, the city has been home to many civilizations, from the Persians to the Romans. The name Giresun derives from the word “kerasus,” meaning cherry. According to legend, the Amazon warrior women lived on Giresun Island. During the Ottoman period, Giresun became an important trade port.
