Günyurdu Reservoir (Bilecik)
Günyurdu Göleti is an artificial reservoir (a body of water impounded by a structure built across a river) located within the boundaries of the Pazaryeri district of Bilecik Province. The structure was constructed across the Bakraş Creek and primarily serves to meet the irrigation needs of surrounding agricultural lands. The reservoir also reflects the geographical and ecological characteristics of its region.

Historical Development
Construction of the Günyurdu Dam, which created the reservoir, began in 1993 and was completed in 2001. The dam is a rock-fill structure with a height of 46.00 metres from its foundation. It has the capacity to supply water to approximately 805 hectares (about 8,050,000 square metres) of agricultural land. At normal water level, the reservoir’s volume is measured at 7.40 hm³. During the dam’s construction, part of the former village of Günyurdu was submerged beneath the water.

Geographical Location and Features
The area where Günyurdu Göleti is located lies at an elevation of 835 metres above sea level. At normal water level, the surface area of the reservoir is 0.43 km². This region is situated to the north-west of the city centre of Bilecik Province. The surrounding geographical formations, vegetation cover, and climatic conditions influence the local ecosystem.

Life in the Region
The reservoir provides a habitat within the local ecosystem. Freshwater fish species inhabit the water body, which has led to the practice of angling fishing in the area. Additionally, the surroundings of the reservoir serve as shelter and feeding grounds for bird species such as the common kingfisher. The surrounding vegetation is rich in structure and contributes significantly to the region’s biological diversity.
