📍 Where is İzmir?
İzmir is located in western Türkiye, along the coast of the Aegean Sea. This city, renowned for its historical and natural beauty, is known for its warm climate and hospitable people.
🏛️ The History of İzmir
İzmir’s history dates back over 8,500 years. The earliest settlement traces have been found at Yeşilova Höyüğü in Bornova. Throughout history, İzmir has been home to many civilizations. In antiquity, the city was known as Smyrna and later came under the rule of major empires including the Persians, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans. On 9 September 1922, with the entry of the Turkish army into İzmir, the city became one of the key centers of the independent Republic of Türkiye.
