History
This church was built around 1850, more than 170 years ago, by the Rum community. At that time, the Rum population lived in this region and used the church for worship. Eventually, due to historical events of the period, the Rum people left the area and the church was abandoned. However, although left unoccupied, a Turkish family that settled in the region took responsibility for its protection. Thanks to this guardianship passed down from generation to generation—from grandfather to father and from father to son—the church has remained standing to this day.

Architectural Features
The Kırkharman Church was constructed according to a special plan known as a three-aisle basilica. You can imagine its interior divided into three distinct sections. The ceiling is covered with a barrel vault, a rounded arch structure. To support the ceiling, strong semicircular arches were employed. Inside the church, four columns hold up the vault. The capitals of these columns are decorated with Ionic style ornamentation. The building was constructed using stone, including various types such as rubble stone, finely cut stone, and dressed stone. Additionally, small windows were placed around the building to allow natural light to enter.

Usage and Preservation
The Zıvalı family, who protected the church for many years, prevented it from being damaged by treasure hunters. At times, the church was also used to store belongings. Thanks to this continuous care, the church has retained its original condition without undergoing any major restoration. In 2003, this historic structure was officially registered and placed under state protection. Today, tourists and curious visitors come to see the church.
Cultural and Historical Significance
The highland where the Kırkharman Church stands was once a significant settlement area. Schools, markets, and other churches also existed here. Over time, however, only this church has survived. As a result, it is regarded as a valuable heritage preserved from the past to the present.
The church is also located near the Silk Road, an ancient trade route. This proximity further enhances its historical importance.
