Night of Orders
Sıra gecesi is a traditional gathering, particularly associated with the city of Şanlıurfa, where people come together to enrich their time with music, conversation, and hospitality. These meetings derive their name from a structured system in which, on a weekly basis, a different member of the group hosts the event at their home. These evenings, where friend groups unite, are much more than mere entertainment.

The Meeting Point of Music and Conversation🎶
Sıra geceleri are like a folk conservatory where Şanlıurfa’s rich musical culture is kept alive. A conservatory is a school where music and performing arts are taught. During these evenings, music is learned through the master-apprentice relationship. Those with a good voice or who play an instrument (çalgı) gain experience in makams and usuls here.
The evenings typically feature regional folk songs, gazelles, and hoyratlar performed with traditional instruments such as the bağlama, ud, and violin. Those unfamiliar with the music listen respectfully and learn. In addition to music, conversations take place on local and societal issues, fostering the exchange of ideas. Sometimes traditional games such as "Yüzük Fincan" are also played.
