Nine Stones Game

Dokuz Taş, also known as "Dokuz Kiremit" in various regions of Anatolia, is a traditional children's game based on physical movement and group strategy. The game revolves around toppling a stack of objects using a ball, followed by the opposing team attempting to prevent the stack from being rebuilt. It can be played with mixed groups and is commonly practiced among school-age children.

The game requires specific equipment and a minimum number of players:

• Stones or Tiles: Nine flat, medium-sized stones or tile fragments are arranged in a vertical stack.
• Ball: One ball is used to knock down the stones and target players.
• Number of Players: The game is played between two teams of equal size. A minimum of six participants is essential for the game to function properly.

Before the game begins, players divide into two teams and each team selects a leader. A counting or drawing method determines which team starts. The nine stones are stacked vertically at the center of the playing area. A throwing line is marked approximately ten steps behind the stack.

The game proceeds through the following logical sequence of stages:

• Throwing Stage: Members of the team that won the right to start take turns throwing the ball from the designated line toward the stack. Each team has three throws to knock down the stones. If the team fails to topple the stack, the throwing turn passes to the opposing team.
• Scattering and Chase: As soon as the stones are toppled, the throwing team scatters across the playing area. The defending team quickly retrieves the ball and attempts to hit the opposing players who are trying to rebuild the stack. In some variants, defenders are granted additional authority to scatter the stones further after they are toppled.
• Rebuilding the Stack and Elimination: The objective of the throwing team is to rebuild the stack of nine stones before any member is hit by the ball. A player struck by the ball is considered “out” and must leave the game. The eliminated player waits on the sidelines until the next round.

The outcome of the game is determined by the following criteria:

• If the throwing team successfully rebuilds the stack without any member being hit, they score "1-0" and retain the next turn.
• If all members of the throwing team are hit before the stack is rebuilt, the turn passes to the opposing team.
• The game continues until a predetermined number of sets or points is reached.
