Renaissance Period
The Renaissance is a major period of transformation in Europe that lasted from the late 14th century to the early 17th century. The word “Renaissance” is French and means “rebirth”.
During this time people rediscovered the art science and ideas of ancient Greece and Rome. No longer content with only the teachings of the Church they sought to understand nature humanity and the universe through their own observations.
🏛️ Why Did the Renaissance Emerge?
Several factors contributed to the beginning of the Renaissance:
Growth of trade: The Silk Road and Mediterranean trade enriched cities.
Crusades: New knowledge and inventions arrived in Europe from the East.
Plague outbreaks: People began to think more deeply about the meaning of life.
Knowledge from Byzantium: After the fall of Constantinople in 1453 scholars migrated to Europe bringing with them ancient manuscripts.
🗺️ Where and When Did It Begin?
The Renaissance began in Italy. Wealthy cities such as Florence Venice and Rome supported artists and scientists.
Over time it spread to France Germany England and other European countries. It lasted approximately 300 years.
🎨 Major Changes in Art
Artists began to work in a more realistic style in painting sculpture and architecture. They used perspective to add depth to their works. People nature and cities appeared more detailed and natural.

Renaissance architects reused ancient Roman elements such as columns domes and arches.

Costumes and stage decorations became more elaborate.
