Sivas Government House
Sivas Government House is an important state building that has survived from the Ottoman period to the present day. Located in the center of Sivas, the building holds significant historical and architectural value. It was commissioned in 1884 by Halil Rıfat Paşa, a renowned governor of the era.
What Kind of Building Was It?
During construction, cut stone was used. Originally built as a two-story structure, it measures exactly 50 meters in length and 20 meters in width. The front and rear facades feature large doors and stone columns, which gave the building a strong and majestic appearance.
Later, between 1913 and 1917, Governor Muammer Bey added a third floor to the building. This additional floor was constructed using wood rather than stone.

Fire and Reconstruction
Unfortunately, a major fire in 1978 completely destroyed the wooden third floor, leaving only the stone walls standing. However, thanks to restoration works carried out in 1982, the building was returned to its original form.
Following final renovations in 2005, the structure was reinforced and continues to function as a modern public building.
Current Condition
Today, the Sivas Government House serves both for official administrative functions and as a historical heritage site attracting tourists. Its central location on Hükümet Meydanı makes it easily accessible. Many visitors to Sivas do not leave the city without seeing this beautiful stone building.
