TÜBİTAK
TÜBİTAK is the abbreviated name of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye. But what does this institution do? It does amazing things related to science and technology! Let’s learn about them together.
When Was TÜBİTAK Established?
TÜBİTAK was established in 1963 in Ankara. That is, a long time ago, a team came together in Türkiye to advance science and technology. At that time, its primary goal was to support scientists and encourage young people to engage in scientific research. For example, it formed research groups in fields such as natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and agriculture.
What Does TÜBİTAK Do?
TÜBİTAK carries out many activities related to science and technology. Here are some of them:
- Supports Scientists: It provides scholarships and awards to encourage those engaged in scientific work. For instance, if a scientist makes a new discovery, TÜBİTAK can offer them assistance.
- Establishes Research Centers: It operates specialized centers in fields such as electronics, defense, space, and metrology (the science of measurement). In these centers, researchers work on projects such as developing new rockets or computer technologies.
- Defines Science and Technology Policies: It determines which areas Türkiye should focus on in science and develops strategic plans accordingly.
- Encourages Public Interest in Science: It publishes science magazines and books for children, youth, and adults. It also organizes science festivals and competitions, enabling everyone to learn science in an enjoyable way!
What Are TÜBİTAK’s Centers?
TÜBİTAK has centers located in different parts of Türkiye. For example:
- Marmara Research Center (MAM): Located in Gebze, it develops new technologies.
- National Electronics and Cryptology Research Institute (UEKAE): It conducts research on electronics and encryption.
- Institute of Space Technologies (UZAY): It works on space-related projects. Perhaps one day they will build a space rocket!
- National Metrology Institute (UME): It specializes in measurement science. For example, it checks the accuracy of clocks.
Why Is TÜBİTAK Important?
TÜBİTAK works to make Türkiye a stronger and more innovative country. It supports scientists in making new discoveries and fosters a love for science among children and youth. Additionally, by developing environmentally conscious technologies, it contributes to making our world a better place.
