Hunat Hatun Camii
Hunat Hatun Medresesi is located in the very center of Kayseri city. The medrese was built east of İç Kale and outside the old city walls.
🔵 Who Commissioned It?
The medrese was commissioned in 1237 by Mahperi Hunat Hatun, wife of Sultan I. Alaeddin Keykubat and mother of Sultan I. Giyaseddin Keyhüsrev.
🟢 What Kind of Place Is It?

Hunat Hatun Camii (Kayseri Valiliği)
- It features an open-air square courtyard.
- Student cells are arranged around the courtyard.
- The main eyvan is located on the east side.
- The stone courses are regular and covered with pointed vaults.
- The geometric Seljuk motifs on the portal are exceptionally beautiful.
🟣 Historical Use
- 1929: Used as the Archaeology Museum.
- After the opening of the new Archaeology Museum in 1969, it became the Ethnography Museum.
- Since 1998, it has served as a souvenir shop market.
🟠 Special Information
The medrese is one of the most significant cultural monuments of the Seljuk period, notable for both its architecture and stonework. Today, its interior is used as a market, yet its historical fabric remains preserved.
