Bayburt University (BAYÜ) is a public university established by Law No. 5765, published in the Official Gazette No. 26892 on 31 May 2008. The institution conducts educational and research activities in the city of Bayburt, located in the Eastern Black Sea Region.

History

Bayburt University acquired legal personality through a law adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye in 2008. Prior to its establishment, Bayburt hosted the Bayburt Faculty of Education affiliated with Atatürk University and the Bayburt Vocational School of Higher Education affiliated with Karadeniz Technical University. These units were integrated under the rectorate of Bayburt University upon its founding and formed the academic foundation of the new institution. Following its establishment, the academic structure was expanded with the opening of new faculties, vocational schools and research centers.

Campuses

The university’s educational, instructional and administrative activities are carried out across campuses located in the city center and districts. The Dede Korkut Külliyesi and Bâberti Külliyesi, situated near the city center, serve as the main campuses. In addition, campuses housing vocational schools are also located in the districts of Aydıntepe and Demirözü.

Student Profile

The university admits students based on results from the centralized examinations conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). It offers education at the associate’s, bachelor’s and graduate (master’s and doctoral) levels. The institution hosts students from various provinces of Türkiye as well as from abroad.

Departments

Bayburt University offers undergraduate and associate’s degree programs through its faculties and vocational schools.

Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate programs are conducted within the faculties.


The Faculty of Education offers programs in Science Education, Primary Mathematics Education, English Language Teaching, Early Childhood Education, Guidance and Psychological Counseling, Classroom Teaching, Social Studies Education and Turkish Language Teaching.


Health-related programs are offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences in the departments of Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing and Health Administration.


The Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences includes programs in Economics, Business Administration, Political Science and Public Administration, and International Trade and Business.


In the field of engineering and architecture, Civil Engineering is taught at the Faculty of Engineering, while Emergency Response and Disaster Management and Customs Administration and Information Systems are offered at the Faculty of Applied Sciences.


Programs within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences include Sociology, History and Turkish Language and Literature.


Other undergraduate programs are offered in Theology and Theology (M.T.O.K.) at the Faculty of Theology, New Media and Communication at the Faculty of Art and Design, and Sports Management at the Faculty of Sports Sciences.

Associate’s Degree Programs

Associate’s degree programs are delivered through various vocational schools with a focus on professional training. The Vocational School of Health Services offers programs in Anesthesiology, Child Development, Pharmacy Services, First Aid and Emergency Care, Opticianry, Health Institution Management, Medical Documentation and Secretarial Work, Medical Laboratory Techniques and Geriatric Care.


The Vocational School of Technical Sciences offers programs in Alternative Energy Resources Technology, Computer Programming, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Digital Health Systems Technology, Electricity, Electrical Appliances Technology, Photography and Camerawork, Graphic Design, Occupational Health and Safety, Mechatronics, Private Security and Protection, and Health Information Systems Technology.


The Vocational School of Social Sciences offers programs in Culinary Arts, Banking and Insurance, Office Management and Executive Assistance, Criminal Justice and Security Services, Business Management, Logistics, Court Office Services, Finance, Baking and Breadmaking, Postal Services, Social Security and Sports Management.


The Aydıntepe and Demirözü Vocational Schools, located in their respective districts, offer the following programs: Child Development and Child Protection and Care Services in Aydıntepe; Food Technology, Cartography and Cadastre, and Construction Technology (Aydıntepe); Horseback Riding and Coaching, Heavy Equipment Operation, Laboratory and Veterinary Health, Civil Aviation Operations and Civil Aviation Cabin Services (Demirözü).

International Activities

In line with its internationalization strategy, Bayburt University participates in the Erasmus+ Exchange Program and bilateral cooperation agreements. These partnerships support student and staff mobility and foster academic collaboration with universities in Europe and other regions.

Awards and Achievements

Bayburt University has achieved various successes in academic projects, scientific publications and sporting activities.


According to the results of the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Student Research Projects for the 2024-1st term, the university ranked 7th nationwide with 728 project applications and 23rd with 226 approved projects. The Faculty of Education (53 projects), Faculty of Health Sciences (34 projects) and Faculty of Theology (24 projects) were the leading units in terms of project approvals.【1】


In the field of academic awards, during the 2025–2026 Academic Year Inauguration and Awards Ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Ahmet Teber from the Department of Electricity and Energy was awarded the “Science Award”.【2】


In previous years (2015–2016), Professor Dr. Nasrullah Hacımüftüoğlu received the “Social Responsibility and Service Award”, Professor Dr. Rabil Ayazoğlu received the “Scientist Award”, Assistant Professor Dr. Esmeray Alacadağlı received the “Institutional Performance Support Award”, and Assistant Professor Dr. İbrahim Karakaş received the “R&D Performance Support Award”. Additionally, Assistant Professors Erdem Cüce and Murat Çolak, and Lecturer Volkan Şenay were honored in the academic performance category.【3】


In sports, Bayburt University Sports Club athlete Mustafa Kılıçkaya secured second place at the 2024 Turkey Martyr Eren Bülbül Ranking Event – First Leg Darts Tournament held in Ankara. Kılıçkaya also qualified for the national team by passing the Electronic Darts National Team Selections and has been selected to represent Türkiye in the upcoming championship in Slovakia.【4】

Student Life

Student housing needs in Bayburt are met through dormitories operated by the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK), private dormitories and rental accommodations. On campus, students have access to a library, sports facilities, a cafeteria and social areas. Throughout the year, various cultural, artistic and sporting events are organized through student clubs.
