Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University (BŞEÜ) is a public university established by Law No. 5662, published in the Official Gazette No. 26536 on 29 May 2007. The institution carries out higher education activities in Bilecik province, located in Türkiye’s Marmara Region, across its central and district campuses.
At the time of its establishment, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, the Institute of Social Sciences, and the Institute of Natural Sciences were directly attached to the rectorate. During the same period, the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences from Dumlupınar University, along with the vocational schools in Osmaneli, Pazaryeri, Gölpazarı and Söğüt; the Health Vocational School and the Health Services Vocational School from Osmangazi University; and the Vocational School and the Bozüyük Vocational School from Anadolu University were transferred to the new university.
The institution, originally named “Bilecik University,” was renamed “Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University” by Law No. 6287 published in the Official Gazette on 27 April 2012. The rectorship was carried out by Prof. Dr. İbrahim Taş and Prof. Dr. Şükrü Beydemir during this period. On 25 May 2024, by Decision No. 2024/144, Prof. Dr. Zafer Asım Kaplancıklı was appointed as rector.
The university provides services from its Central Campus, located approximately 5–6 kilometres from the city centre of Bilecik, and from its district campuses. Access to the Central Campus is facilitated by private vehicles, public transportation, taxis, and dolmuş routes connected to the High-Speed Train (YHT) station. The campus features a 1522-metre-long bicycle path. The campus is located 30 minutes from Bursa Yenişehir Airport.【1】

A total of 20,758 students are currently enrolled at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University.【2】 Students are placed in programmes based on results from central examinations administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM).
Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University offers undergraduate and associate degree programmes across various disciplines through its faculties and vocational colleges.
Undergraduate education is delivered by the university’s faculties and vocational colleges.
The Faculty of Engineering offers departments in Computer Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. The Faculty of Science includes programmes in Statistics and Computer Science (including a quota for citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), Mathematics, and Molecular Biology and Genetics.
Undergraduate education in health sciences is provided by the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry, as well as by departments within the Faculty of Health Sciences: Child Development, Nursing, Health Administration, and Social Work. The Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences offers programmes in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Political Science and Public Administration, and Management Information Systems.
The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences includes departments in Geography, History, and Turkish Language and Literature. The Faculty of Fine Arts and Design offers departments in Industrial Design and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.
The Faculty of Applied Sciences includes programmes in Finance and Banking, Accounting and Financial Management, Tourism Management, and Tourism Guiding. The Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences offers programmes in Biosystems Engineering and Agricultural Engineering (including a quota for citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus). In the field of religious higher education, the Faculty of Theology offers programmes in Theology and Theology (M.T.O.K.), while the Faculty of Islamic Sciences offers programmes in Islamic Sciences and Islamic Sciences (M.T.O.K.).
Associate degree programmes are delivered through vocational colleges located in the central and district areas. The Vocational College (Central), which hosts a high concentration of technical programmes, offers the following: Culinary Arts, Computer Programming, Biomedical Device Technology, Environmental Protection and Control, Electricity, Electricity Generation Transmission and Distribution, Electronic Communication Technology, Electronic Technology, Food Quality Control and Analysis, Food Technology, Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technology (including a quota for citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), Interior Design, Construction Technology, Chemical Technology, Control and Automation Technology, Machinery, Mechatronics, Metallurgy, Automotive Technology, Landscape and Ornamental Plant Cultivation, and Quality Control in Production.
The Health Services Vocational College provides education in Operating Room Services, Child Development, Dialysis, Pharmacy Services, First Aid and Emergency Care, Opticianry, Medical Documentation and Secretarial Services, and Medical Laboratory Techniques.
Vocational colleges in the districts offer programmes tailored to regional needs. Osmaneli Vocational College offers programmes in Culinary Arts, Foreign Trade, Electricity, Home Care for Patients, Occupational Health and Safety, Machinery, Accounting and Tax Applications, Health Institution Management, Medical Documentation and Secretarial Services, and Tourism and Hotel Management. Söğüt Vocational College offers programmes in Culinary Arts, Printing and Publishing Technology, Computer Programming, Office Management and Executive Assistance, Public Relations and Promotion, Interior Design, Court Office Services, Fashion Design, and Social Security.
Pazaryeri Vocational College offers programmes in Banking and Insurance, Computer Programming, Industrial Product Design, Internet and Network Technologies, Medical Promotion and Marketing, and Web Design and Coding. Bozüyük Vocational College includes departments in Banking and Insurance, Foreign Trade, Graphic Design, Accounting and Tax Applications, and Advertising. Gölpazarı Vocational College offers programmes in Banking and Insurance, Office Management and Executive Assistance, Social Services, and Local Governance.
The university’s international relations are coordinated by the Office of International Relations. The institution facilitates student and staff exchanges through the European Union-funded Erasmus+ Programme. It also implements the national Farabi Exchange Programme and the international Mevlana Exchange Programme. The university has signed cooperation protocols with overseas higher education institutions such as Management & Science University in Malaysia to promote student and faculty mobility and to conduct joint research projects.【3】
Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2024): The university was included in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, placed in the 1501+ band in the overall ranking and ranked 36th within Türkiye.【4】
THE Impact Rankings (2025): In the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, the university was placed in the 1501+ band overall. Within Türkiye, it ranked 6th in the “Good Health and Well-being” category, 7th in the “Responsible Consumption and Production” category, and 8th in the “Affordable and Clean Energy” category.【5】
THE Awards Asia (2024): Under the “THE Awards Asia 2024” organised by London-based ranking body THE, the university was shortlisted as a finalist in the “Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership” category among 600 universities for its work in industrial sustainability.【6】
Accessible University Awards (2020): Under the Accessible University Awards organised by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the university won eight awards in the “Physical Accessibility” (Orange Flag) category in 2020, placing second among the 116 institutions evaluated. The rectorate, the library, and numerous faculty and vocational college buildings have received the Orange Flag designation.【7】
Academic Excellence Award: Rector Prof. Dr. Zafer Asım Kaplancıklı was awarded the “Academic Excellence” award at the Academic Performance Awards Ceremony organised by Anadolu University, in recognition of his scientific research and academic productivity.【8】
The Central Campus features a football field and athletics track with a capacity of 3,316 spectators, a 288-seat indoor sports hall, a 402-seat indoor arena, tennis courts, and a squash court. Annual Spring Sports Competitions and Science and Culture Festivals are held. The Prof. Dr. Azmi Özcan Library houses over six million printed and electronic resources and provides 24/7 access to study rooms and automated loan and return systems. Student housing needs are met through dormitories operated by the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK) and private dormitories. The campus includes a Family Health Centre and psychological counselling services. Student clubs, coordinated by the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports, carry out social, cultural and professional activities.【9】
