Origin

Shake is derived from the Old Turkish verb sarsıt-, which means “to behave harshly or violently.” Its older root is the Old Turkish verb sar-², carrying meanings such as “to behave harshly to become rigid or stiff,” and the verb sarsıt- may have evolved from this. The word Shake has thus been nominalized from this root to denote the sudden and violent swaying or trembling of an object or individual.
